Sundplast is a reference brand in the manufacturing industry for customized solutions. Our success is based on long-term relationships with our customers. By continuously offering the highest quality, consistent delivery and high customer service, we strive to turn every delivery into a recommendation for the future.

Our success is based on long-term relationships with our customers

Our strength has always been the ability to design and manufacture customized product solutions for our customers. Experienced and knowledgeable engineers can create a product designed specifically for your needs using the latest software and machinery technology.

By using many processes, engineers can choose the right one to make your product. After going through the design, application and volumes needed for your part, a sales engineer can suggest several options in terms of investment tools and unit price. All so that you as a customer can make an informed decision.

Design & construction

Sundplast started working with injection molding in the 1970s and has since built up a solid knowledge of technology, materials and design. We can offer complete solutions from idea to finished product, including finishing and packaging. We are happy to participate in the early stages of your product development. Let us be your guide to the many possibilities of plastics and save you time. We know what works and what doesn’t, and therefore, with our expertise and technical know-how, we can serve as the perfect sounding board.

Injection molding is the main method for producing plastic parts. The method is used for the processing of thermoplastics but is now also useful for thermoplastics, thermosets and elastomers. All common plastic materials can be processed by injection molding; homogeneous as well as cellular as well as materials with fillers or fiber reinforcement.

Tool making

We have our own mold workshop for the production of injection molds. This ensures quality and delivery reliability, and enables the production of highly complex plastic products. As a supplier, we take full responsibility and follow you all the way from the idea to the tool manufacturing to the final product. This saves you, the customer, from being caught between two stools. In addition, our in-house tool making allows us to advise and guide the customer on the design of the plastic part, as we have knowledge and long experience of the whole production chain. In the shaping workshop, the shaping tools are continuously maintained to ensure a consistent and high quality of the final product.

We manufacture many of our own injection molds, which ensures quality and delivery reliability for you as a customer.

According to the Swedish Standard, tools for plastic processing are preferably called moulds, but moulding tools are allowed and have perhaps become the most common term. The mold is at the heart of the injection molding process. A properly designed mold is critical to the quality of the part and the economics of production.

The role of the mold in the processing of thermoplastics is as follows:

Distribute the molten plastic in the mold tool
Shaping the molten plastic in a mold room to the desired geometry
Cooling the shaped melt to a solid part by tempering
Freeing the part from the mold using an ejector system

Prototyping

For customized products, we can arrange for prototyping during the development phase. This is to enable quick and effective evaluation during the project. We can offer prototypes in many different materials and functionalities to make it as real as possible.

In many areas there is considerable uncertainty as to whether a new design will in practice do what is desired. New designs often face unexpected problems. A prototype is often used as part of the development process, allowing engineers and designers to explore design options, test theories and confirm performance before starting production of a new product. Our engineers use their experience to tailor solutions to your specific requirements. For example, some prototypes may be used to confirm and verify consumer or end-user interest in a proposed design while other prototypes will seek to verify performance or suitability for a specific design strategy.

Generally, a series of prototypes are developed to be tested so that the final design is prepared for production. With few exceptions, several stages of prototyping are used to progressively refine the design. A common approach is to design, test, evaluate and then change the design based on the analysis of the prototype.

Injection molding

Sundplast specializes in the production of high-quality and cost-effective plastic parts in a variety of areas. We started working with injection molding in the 1970s and have since built up solid knowledge in technology, materials and design. We can offer complete solutions from idea to finished product, including finishing and packaging.

We can also offer small-scale injection molding for start-ups, SMEs and well-established companies. We have the resources, tools and skills to provide the support needed to produce everything from prototypes to fully assembled system solutions. Please contact us to find out more about our skills and production capabilities. The main advantages of small-scale production are:

Rapid responses to changes in demand
Adaptability
No risk of overproduction

Small-scale production allows you to start a pilot series of a product with minimal expenses and risks. This places special demands on us as manufacturers, requiring us to be flexible, quickly adapt production processes and meet tight deadlines. Not all plastic manufacturers are able to produce smaller batches as this is associated with a significant increase in unit costs. We guarantee high quality within set deadlines. We develop an efficient pattern of deliveries and start small-scale production of your products under the guidance of our competent project managers.

Surface treatment, IML & Printing

Since we are a complete supplier in the plastics industry, we have also built up the handling of labeling systems and different types of printing stations as well as handling different types of surface treatments such as vacuum metallization, painting, etc. Plastic products can also be coated with a metallic finish that increases their protection against damage and scratches and gives the surface an exclusive and appealing look. It is possible to get very good imitations of the chrome and aluminum look.

The ability to give plastics metallic properties has many advantages. Plastics are usually non-conductive, non-magnetic, negatively affected by sunlight and have poor abrasion properties. With the right choice of materials and surface treatment, these properties can be modified to create conductive, decorative parts with increased strength, durability, abrasion and corrosion resistance.

Sundplast prints on plastic and has thus developed very high competence in printing on several materials. We use two main techniques. Printing with solvent-based inks that “etch” into the plastic through migration, and heat transfer that imprints from a film to the plastic surface through heat. The result in both cases is a strong and durable printing surface that matches the plastic’s high resistance to abrasion, moisture and chemicals.

We have invested in robotic IML (In Mould Labelling) production, i.e.. a technology in which graphic decoration and labels are integrated directly into the plastic packaging during the manufacturing process. This process takes place in a new system from leading manufacturers and meets all the requirements for the production of packaging.

Assembly & Packing

We are happy to offer you a total solution that includes the assembly of complete products. As a complete supplier in the plastics industry, we have built up assembly and packaging lines for different types of handling of customized products. It may also involve purchasing components that are assembled with manufactured items. This together with different types of printing stations and handling of different types of surface treatments such as vacuum metallization, painting etc. makes us a complete supplier. Sundplast offers assembly and final inspection of your product, packed and ready for the consumer. In this way, we have control over the entire production chain.

All industries are striving to shorten lead times and reduce freight and scrap costs. For us, the production of a part often involves several of our different business areas, and the assembly department is the glue that holds it all together. The overview and knowledge of the entire production chain is very valuable and the synergies gained by having everything under one roof are therefore significant.
